Submarine Liferaft Systems

The DSB Submarine Liferaft System is a state of the art survival tool developed to aid submariners in the event of an emergency situation. Designed as a multi-seater liferaft for installation on board submarines, the Liferaft System is available in sizes ranging from 20 to 50 person rafts. To date the system has been installed in a large number of submarines operated internationally, including Korea, Turkey, Israel, Germany, Italy, Brazil, Greece and South Africa. Each system is manufactured and stringently tested to the highest standards, including the German Lloyd approval.

Installation and Storage onboard

  • The storage of the URG system is outside the pressure hull below the upper deck and is as such not compromising on the available space inside the submarine.

Operation on Surface

  • At the surface the liferaft container is released from inside the submarine.
  • The telescope lifts the container above the surface of the upper deck.
  • The container is manually rolled over board.
  • The liferaft’s container remains connected to the submarine.
  • Liferaft inflation begins immediately and automatically.

Operation under water

  • From inside the submarine the liferaft container is released and floats free to the surface.
  • The liferaft’s inflation mechanism is triggered and locked on separation from the submarine.

Inflation Sequence

  • Inflation of the Liferaft begins at a depth between eight and four meters beneath the surface.
  • The container is opened automatically by the inflating liferaft.
